Abstract

Recent advancements in the endoscopic technology enables endoscopist to detect superficial non-ampullary duodenal epithelial tumors (SNADETs). However, since SNADETs are rare lesions, endoscopic findings in SNADETs have not yet been established. Furthermore, nonneoplastic lesions in the duodenum have a variety of morphologies. Here, we discuss the present status regarding how to make a correct endoscopic diagnosis of SNADETS and other nonneoplastic lesions. When we apply the most advanced technique using magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band imaging to these lesions, we might be able to make a precise diagnosis. Nevertheless, their additional advantages need to be evaluated by a further study in the future.
