Abstract
Investigations in dermatology may be necessary to make a diagnosis or the reassure the patient that there is nothing more sinister underlying their skin complaint. Treatments may include simple over the counter treatment, lifestyle advice, reassurance, prescription medication and/or skin surgery. All potentially malignant skin conditions should have a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis histologically. It should be made clear to patients when treating their skin condition whether we are trying to cure the condition or merely control the symptoms and improve the appearance of the skin.
