Abstract
Patients often present to the emergency department (ED) with complaints of chest pain, shortness of breath, and syncope. It is vital that the Pediatric Emergency Physician be able to recognize cardiac emergencies. Bedside ultrasound is an essential skill in the evaluation of these patients. In this chapter, readers will learn the basics of evaluating patients at the bedside. Through the use of case studies, readers will learn basic anatomy and scanning technique, as well as more complex concepts such as Doppler. They will learn how to integrate these findings with their overall clinical assessment to formulate a treatment plan.
