Abstract
The most common primary CNS malignancy is a glioblastoma multiforme which can appear on imaging as a butterfly lesion that crosses the corpus callosum. The most common primary malignancies than can produce brain metastases are lung cancer, breast cancer, and melanoma. Brain metastases typically present on imaging with multiple, well-defined, round masses near the gray-white junction. The most common extra-axial mass is a meningioma which presents on nonenhanced CT as a hyperdense lesion with calcifications. The 3 H’s describing the emergent complications of a brain tumor are hemorrhage, hydrocephalus, and herniation.
