Abstract
Prostatic artery embolization (PAE) has an overall good safety profile. Expected side effects are typically related to post-embolic inflammation of the prostate and peri-prostatic tissues. These symptoms are usually self-limited; however, medical treatment can be administered by the interventionalist to increase patient comfort during recovery. Non-target embolization may occur during the procedure and its effects should be recognized. Following the procedure, the interventionalist should be aware of the potential for other complications such as urinary tract infection, urethral obstruction, and radiodermatitis and be able to appropriately manage and triage these complications.
