Abstract

Without support, developmental tasks can be demanding for the growing child and adolescent. While certain behaviors and emotional reactions can be developmentally normal, other behaviors may point to a psychiatric condition that requires attention and needs to be addressed with appropriate interventions. The focus of this chapter is to provide the pediatrician with a basic understanding of common presentations related to mental health in children and adolescents.
