Abstract
After patella fractures, rupture of the quadriceps tendon is the most common cause of a disruption of the extensor mechanism. Sixty percent of quadriceps tendon ruptures occur through the tendon and 40% occur due to avulsion of the tendon from its insertion onto the patella. This latter injury was first described by Albert Trillat and is due to a periosteal sleeve avulsion at the quadriceps tendon insertion.
