Essentials of Neurosurgical Anesthesia & Critical Care

Abstract

Patients at risk for life-threatening deterioration of central nervous system disease are managed in the critical care unit. For example, there are approximately 500,000 traumas per year in the USA with one half of the deaths directly related to head trauma and respective complications. Endotracheal intubations in neurological emergencies are some of the most challenging clinical situations for airway management.
