Abstract

Physician burnout is a well-documented problem of national significance in the United States. Preventive and therapeutic solutions for this phenomenon are beginning to emerge. There is growing appreciation for the value of combined individual and organizational strategies. The author proposes a practical, step-by-step strategy that calls upon collaborative efforts of physician champions and executive leaders to combat burnout and promote physician wellbeing.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. – Laozi (604-530 BCE), Tao Te Ching, Chap. 64
