Abstract
Because peacebuilding dialogue is intended to help participants overcome relational barriers, it may require shifts in thinking, feeling, and relating to others that can be quite challenging given the conflict or post-conflict setting of peacebuilding dialogue. Mindfulness, as a trait or as the outcome of dedicated periods of practice, has been associated with numerous capacities that could help deal with these challenges, including stress reduction, empathy building, emotion regulation, positive reappraisal, forgiveness, perspective taking, conflict management, and problem-solving. The current chapter will examine theory and evidence of these capacity building functions of mindfulness and consider how peacebuilding dialogue can be affected by a mindfulness perspective.
