Abstract

Like anywhere in Europe, every country has its own unique health care system. Even though there are similarities, every health care system has grown to address the needs of that country with respect to history, social systems and cultural differences. Health care provided to asylum seekers is of the same standard with the same level of access as for Dutch citizens. What makes health care for asylum seekers in the Netherlands unique is the stepped-care model, a life-time electronic patient dossier and the co-ordination between primary and secondary health care, and public health services. This central point of care means that the health care provided is easy to access, efficient and of high quality. This chapter will highlight all aspects of the provision of health care to migrants in the Netherlands.
