Future Challenges for the Public and Curative Health Sector

Abstract

The legal framework providing for preventive and curative health services to refugees and asylum seekers is broad, allowing federal states to implement by-laws. This led to a wide range of services offered. This chapter highlights the provisions of the national laws and gives examples of regional regulations from Hamburg and Bavaria to highlight the band-width of possibilities. With the current level of migration to Germany the public health sector faces increasing pressures in its routine work that might lead to an expansion of the role and responsibilities of public health services in the field of migrant health.
