Abstract
The poetic miscellany of Anne Cornwallis, “Leaves from a Verse Miscellany of Courtly Poetry” (c. 1580–1595, MS V.a.89, Folger Shakespeare Library), has been of increasing assistance to scholars in assessing the at times disputed authorship of the courtly poetry transcribed in its eighteen leaves. While there is general agreement that the signature hand is her own, Cornwallis did not author any poems in this miscellany. Her role remains to be explored, however, with respect to the identification and assembly of the manuscript’s contents, its preservation, and its possible contemporary circulation.
