Abstract

Network lifetime is a very important factor in Wireless Sensor Network because of the limited sources. The clustering technique in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) has improved the performance of WSN in terms of lifetime, overhead, packet delivery fraction, throughput, etc. but there are still problems in this technique, like the selection of cluster head. In this paper, we propose an approach associated to clustering for energy efficient cluster head selection. In this approach, CH is selected based on remaining battery power. Ultimately, the overhead of re-clustering and the consumption of energy inside the same cluster will be minimized and the network lifetime will be increased. We make a comparison of our proposed approach to the LEACH clustering algorithm. Comparison of our proposed approach is based on the energy consumption and alive nodes (Lifetime). The simulation has been performed using NS-2 simulator. We have used different network parameters; through which it is observed that our propose approach improve the results as compared to other clustering based algorithms.
