Abstract
Branched chain amino acids are essential amino acids that cannot be synthesised within the body. There are subtle but important differences in their structure, function and metabolism which mean that it is important to consider the BCAA as separate entities. Examples of the applications of branched chain amino acids can be found in this book and also via the recommended resources highlighted in this chapter. This chapter highlights the most up-to-date information on the organizations and regulatory bodies interested in branched chain amino acids, professional bodies, journals, books and websites that are relevant to an evidence-based use of branched chain amino acids in health and disease.
