Pearls and Pitfalls in Cosmetic Oculoplastic Surgery

Abstract

In lower blepharoplasty surgery, eyelid fat can be repositioned into either the surgical sub- or supraperiosteal planes. To better elucidate differences in outcome between the two planes of fat translocation, these authors compared the results to surgery in 20 patients who had fat repositioned subperiosteally and in 20 patients who had fat repositioned supraperiosteally. What the authors found was that there was no statistically significant difference in cosmetic results between the two groups.
