Abstract

Critical limb ischemia (CLI) represents the most severe manifestation of peripheral arterial disease and is defined as the presence of chronic ischemic rest pain, ischemic ulcers, or gangrene attributable to objectively proven arterial occlusive disease. Primary treatment goals include relief of ischemic rest pain, healing of ischemic ulcers, limb salvage, and improvement in quality of life.
