Abstract

Saliva is antibacterial via secretory IgA, lactoferrin, salivary peroxidase, and lysozymes. Necrotizing sialometaplasia is commonly mistaken as malignancy histopathologically (pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia) and resolves without intervention. The tubular form for adenoid cystic carcinoma has the best prognosis and the solid form has the worst prognosis.
