Abstract
Since its inception over 40 years ago endoscopic retrograde cholagiopancreatography (ERCP) has evolved from a purely diagnostic study to predominantly a therapeutic intervention. Therapeutic ERCP has supplanted surgery for many biliary and pancreatic disease processes. The success of ERCP relies on a specialized team of endoscopists, nurses, and technicians. Its mastery requires additional training in advanced endoscopy, continuing practice of the technique, and dedication to continuing education in ERCP as the technology rapidly evolves.
