Abstract

Paper describes measurement of displacements and strains under environmental circumstances which have necessitated development of special techniques based on elementary optical interferometry. Examples are given of measurements at high temperature, high strain rate, and small deformations. Emphasis is on simplicity in the experimental set-up as well as in evaluation of tests. It is concluded that the methods described may be useful at times, as results can be obtained despite difficult circumstances although the resolution might be somewhat limited.
