Hip Joint Restoration

Abstract

Hip arthroscopy in children and adolescents is emerging as an appropriate alternative to open approaches and may be helpful to treat several pathologies. Our goal in this chapter is to present the indications, surgical technique, and complications of hip arthroscopy in the pediatric population. We describe specific pediatric positioning, use of traction, equipment, and portals.

Several indications are discussed: biopsies, septic arthritis, developmental dislocation of the hip, Legg-Calvè-Perthes disease, tenotomies, slipped capital femoral epiphysis, pediatric traumatology, and resection of bone tumors. In light of these results, hip arthroscopy is an important tool in pediatric orthopedics and has to date had good results with a low incidence of complications.
