Abstract
The finding of an elevated creatinine level may be the first sign of chronic kidney disease. This affects 10 % of the population, usually occurring in the context of chronic disease such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, systemic atherosclerosis, and heart failure which accounts for 95 % of patients. This chapter provides a pathway to evaluate the significance of an elevated creatinine and is directed towards doctors working in both primary and secondary care.
