Abstract

Presacral, or retrorectal, tumors are rare and often go unnoticed. A high index of suspicion and a certain degree of clinical acumen are required to identify these lesions. A general risk of malignant transformation necessitates a recommendation for surgical management. In those patients with solid or heterogeneous tumors, we highly recommended pre-operative percutaneous biopsy to rule out malignancy, guide neoadjuvant treatment, and plan for the extent of resection. Purely cystic lesions can most often proceed directly to resection. These tumors are best evaluated and treated by an experienced multidisciplinary team.
