Multimodality Imaging for Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement

Abstract

Aortic stenosis (AS) is a common valve disease affecting mainly the elderly population. Risk factors for AS have been shown to be similar to those for atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease (CAD). Over the last decades, the standard treatment option for patients with AS and CAD has been surgical aortic valve replacement and coronary artery bypass grafting. However, the arrival of transcatheter aortic valve replacement has created a paradigm shift in the management of patients with AS. In the setting of this less invasive approach, the management of coexistent significant CAD remains unclear. This book chapter summarizes the actual knowledge on the topic of AS and concomitant CAD, but also identifies some unanswered questions.
