Abstract
Brain death is defined as the complete and irreversible loss of all brain functions in many countries. The irreversibility can be determined after an adequate observation period or by ancillary tests such as cerebral angiography or electroencephalography. This chapter outlines the clinical criteria of brain death and the role of neuroimaging techniques in the presence of confounding factors that do not allow the diagnosis of brain death on clinical grounds alone.
