Abstract
The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS)’s practice census survey reports that in 2009 there were approximately 252,002 hair transplant surgeries worldwide, which include surgeons from the United States, Canada, Mexico/Central and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Middle East. The majority of these procedures were performed in men (85%), and the numbers of racial or ethnic patients were not available. There are several surgical procedures available to treat hair loss in men and women. These include follicular unit transplantation (FUT), follicular unit extraction (FUE), scalp reduction, and scalp flaps. The latter two methods are not commonly performed and will not be discussed in this chapter.
