Abstract

The author discusses the epidemiolgy and etiopathogenesis of pilonidal disease. The clinical findings and complications are described as well as the nonsurgical approaches and surgical techniques for treatment. All procedures used in treatment of pilonidal sinus disease have different recurrence rates. To prevent recurrence flattening of the intergluteal sulcus and tension-free healing are important factors. Personal hygiene with daily shower and hair removal from the sulcus are important factors as well.
