Abstract

Powdered leaves from four plants and citrus peel were assayed for their ovicidal and protectant properties against the pulse beetle Callosobruchus maculatus infestation of greengram. The plants tested were leaves of Piper nigrum, Annona reticulata, Dillenia ret usa, Ocimum sanctum and peel of Citrus crematifolia. Percent oviposition on seeds were significantly reduced when peel of citrus was applied at doses of 0.20 grams/50 seeds. High adult mortality was observed with leaves of P. nigrum at the doses of 0.10 grams/50 seeds. Prolonged protection of greengram seeds were mainly due to reduced oviposition, low hatching, and high adult mortality.
