Abstract
The chapter deals with the behaviour of structures in service, which should fulfil the fundamental requirements of limited deflections and limited cracking. The above-mentioned purposes are pursued through the limitation of stresses on concrete and steel under service load combinations and through direct evaluation of deflections and width of cracks. EC2 also introduces simplified methods based on the L/d slenderness ratio. Several worked examples are developed and some calculation tools, such as tables and interaction diagrams, are provided.
This chapter was authored by Piero Marro and Matteo Guiglia.
