Abstract

The basic principles for the design and operation of semiconductor detectors are presented. A summary treatment of pn-junction and Schottky-junction formation is described. Common semiconductor configurations are discussed, including planar and coaxial detectors for γ-ray spectroscopy, and various detectors for α-particle spectroscopy.
