Named for the concubine of Abraham driven into the desert with her son Ishmael because of Sarah’s jealousy according to the account in the Old Testament (Genesis XXI, 14). (H 70)

The naming might be influenced by the two letters of the provisional designation 1909 HA. See also the remarks to planet (579).
