1993 PE. Discovered 1993 Aug. 12 by D. D. Balam at Victoria.
Named in memory of Roderick Oliver Redman (1905–1975), professor of astronomy and longtime director of the University of Cambridge Observatories, and in honor of Russell Ormond Redman (1951– ), a radio astronomer on the staff of the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory. The senior Redman established a lifelong association with the DAO when he obtained the observational material for his doctoral thesis there; he became renowned for his superlative observational techniques and designs for astronomical instrumentation. The junior Redman, whose association with the DAO began as a summer student assistant in 1970, has pioneered the study of minor planets at submillimeter wavelengths and is an authority in using the thermal emission spectra to study their surfaces.
