Tar Spirit

n A powerful solvent of varying composition and properties, obtained by distillation of wood tar. Boiling range is extended and has been known to vary from about 70–80°C to practically 260°C. Tar spirits have sharp penetrating odors, dark colors, and a pronounced tendency to attack mild steel containers.
