Abstract
Two states of platinum, Pt0 and Pt+δ, with the binding energy of the Pt(4f7/2) line at 71.4±0.1 and 72.2±0.3 eV, are revealed by XPS in colloidal platinum deposited onto graphite. The latter state is assigned to surface Pt atoms partially oxidized due to the interaction with water and/or oxygen-terminated sulfonate group in an organic shell. The colloid deposition is found to be temperature dependent with the apparent activation energy of ∼40 kJ/mol.
