New Editor-in-Chief We are pleased to announce that Jussi Välimaa will start as the new Editor-in-Chief of Higher Education as of April 22, 2011. Dr. Välimaa is Professor of Higher Education at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, and he is has experience on historical and sociological and international comparative studies of higher education institutions, academic work, academic cultures, assessment and evaluation, social change and higher education, and the globalization of higher education. He has a Lic.Phil degree in the history of ideas and a Ph.D. in social policy from the University of Jyväskylä. He is well-acquainted with the aims, scope, and vision of Higher Education, since he worked as a member of editorial board from 2003 and coordinating editor of the journal from 2009 onwards. A Thank-You to Grant Harman We would like to express our deep gratitude to Professor emeritus Grant Harman, who is stepping back as Editor-in-Chief of Higher Education, for his outstanding work and strong dedication over the last 14 years. Grant Harman was appointed the Editor-in-Chief in June 1998 and he has witnessed and contributed to the growth of Higher Education into a leading journal in the field of higher education research. During his period as Editor-in-Chief the number of yearly volumes has increased by 50 per cent and the number of submissions has more than quadrupled over the last 10 years. We are sincerely grateful to his great work in the service of the journal. Recognized as the leading international journal on higher education studies, this publication examines educational developments throughout the world in universities, polytechnics, colleges, and vocational and education institutions. It reports on developments in both public and private higher education sectors.
