Summary

Diagnosis of liver hydatid cyst disease was established by ultrasound and CT examination in 76 patients and confirmed with positive IF and ELISA tests. We found them elective for percutaneous punction after albendazole treatment. Obtained specimens were examined for presence of echinococcal particles and 48 were positive (63.16 %) and it reflects the specifity of applied serological tests. Development of more specific serological tests combined with existent radiological methods will contribute to more accurate diagnostic approach but analysis of cyst specimens will remain the cornerstone of exact diagnosis.
