Abstract.

The purpose and contents of this topical issue, Dynamics and Thermodynamics with Nuclear Degrees of Freedom, which grew out of a series of workshops in the years 2004 and 2005, are introduced. The central topics are the nuclear density functional, nuclear multi-fragmentation, and nuclear phase transitions.
