Summary

Simple and practicable indices derived from body weight and height are required for proper assessment of the nutritional status. The value of three indices: Weight ÷ Height, (Weight ÷ Height2)×100 and (Weight ÷ Height3) × 1000 were tried in the age group of 6–15 years. For this purpose the weight and height of 1673 school children were analysed. It was found that (Weight ÷ Height2) × 100 can be an age independent index for assessment of the nutritional status.
