Cognitive impairment in schizophrenia spectrum personality

Abstract

Among the most prevalent and debilitating features of disorders on the schizophrenia spectrum are cognitive impairments. However, the pattern and severity of these impairments differ among individuals and across illnesses. The extent to which cognitive dysfunction occurs throughout the spectrum informs us about the pathophysiology of schizophrenia, the potential for treatment, and implications for the course of the illness. This article reviews the most recent findings on cognition in schizophrenia spectrum disorders, focusing on schizotypal personality disorder. Implications and directions for future research are offered.
