Studies on echinostomatidae in Malaya

IV. The animal hosts of Echinostoma malayanum Leiper, 1911 (Trematoda)

Summary

Echinostoma malayanum has been found in nature in pigs, rats (Rattus rattus diardi, R. argentiventer, and R. jalorensis), and in house-shrews (Suncus murinus). Dogs are probably a good host, although not found infected in nature as yet. In the Kuala Lumpur area, E. malayanum is found in places where Indoplanorbis exustus snails are associated with pigs, rats and house-shrews. These animals probably are infected by eating the second intermediate snail hosts. Dogs may acquire infection by eating frogs.
