Summary
Using an adoptive transfer type of cytotoxicity test no antitumor activity was detected in the peritoneal cavities of mice given i.p. BCG. But after tumor had been implanted (s.c.) in these BCG-sensitized mice then there was a demonstrably increased immune response to the tumor (compared to that occurring in the normal tumor-bearing mice) in the form of increased numbers of nonadherent specifically cytotoxic peritoneal exudate (PE) cells.
