Abstract

Dentofacial deformities impact not only occlusion but also the facial profile. Facial profiles can be changed according to the patient’s occlusal status. In addition, the occlusal plane also can influence the facial profile enormously. Different from the conventional orthognathic surgery based on the horizontal movement of the maxilla and mandible, the occlusal plane altering orthognathic surgery could be another powerful tool. I believe the occlusal plane altering orthognathic surgery or jaw rotational orthognathic surgery could be another paradigm shift in terms of changing the patients’ facial profile. This chapter addresses my concept of occlusal altering orthognathic surgery and the clinical applications of jaw rotational orthognathic surgery in my practice.
