Abstract
If data is the “new gold,” then drones are the gold miners and refiners. Originally developed for military surveillance and operations, drones, which are flying robots that are remotely controlled or fly autonomously using flight plans controlled by software, now serve as data collectors in a variety of industries, providing eyes, ears, and even hands in places where humans cannot easily go, and doing it more rapidly, easily, and cheaply.
