Abstract
Acute cholecystitis (AC) is one of the most common inflammatory diseases of gastrointestinal (GI) infections. Cholecystectomy has been proposed as the gold standard of treatment for patients with AC who do not respond to initial conservative treatment. However, the morbidity and mortality rates of cholecystectomy still remain high in patients at high risk due to comorbid conditions. Therefore, high-risk patients with AC need an alternative nonsurgical gallbladder decompressions such as endoscopic transpapillary gallbladder drainage (ETGBD) and endoscopic ultrasonography-guided gallbladder drainage (EUS-GBD).
