Abstract

The development of specific antagonists of naturally occurring biologically active substances has been a profitable area for pharmacological research, yielding many potent and clinically useful drugs. Over the years many specific antagonists of natural substances such as acetylcholine, catecholamines, histamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine have been developed. In contrast to the large amount of scientific literature dealing with the wide variety of biological actions of the prostaglandins themselves, there are, at present, relatively few studies concerned with prostaglandin antagonists.
