Abstract

Essential tremor (ET) is the most common movement disorder. It is due to an abnormal electrical brain activity in definite subcortical areas.

Essential tremor is usually described as an action tremor.

Genetics plays the main role in causing ET, and the pattern of inheritance is most consistent with autosomal dominant transmission.

Typically, diagnosis is established on clinical grounds.

Prognosis is generally not poor.
