Similarity Analysis of DNA Sequences Based on Three 2-D Cumulative Ratio Curves

  • Conference paper

Part of the book series: Lecture Notes in Computer Science ((LNBI,volume 6840))

Abstract

Based on three classifications of the DNA bases, three 2-D graphical representations of DNA primary sequences were proposed. These are called R/Y-ratio curve, M/K-ratio curve and W/S-ratio curve, respectively. The presented method has the advantages that (a) there is no loss of information when transferring a DNA sequence to its mathematical representation; and (b) the coordinates of every node on the three 2-D curves have clear biological implication. As an example, the similarities among the coding sequences of the first exon of beta-globin gene from eight species were examined.
