Abstract

In systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients, digital ulcers (DUs) contribute to hand disability. Hand disability related to DUs negatively impacts social, professional, and daily living activities of SSc patients but has also a significant economic impact. Several tools may be used to assess the consequences of DU and better define the patient’s needs. Some of them are used to assess quality of life (SF36, Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System), global disability (Health Assessment Questionnaire), or specific hand disability (Cochin Hand Function Scale, Hand Mobility in Scleroderma index, or Kapandji index). As a consequence, prevention of DUs recurrences must be a major goal for physicians in order to diminish disability and improve patient’s global burdens.
