Abstract

Tobacco cessation constitutes one of the greatest healthcare initiatives in modern time. The implementation critically impacts public health with significant cost savings by decreasing preterm birth, perinatal morbidity, and mortality. Further, the long-term healthcare costs of tobacco abuse may be avoided by taking advantage of the teachable time of pregnancy. The epidemiology, complications, screening, therapies, and strategies for tobacco cessation are discussed in this chapter.
