Abstract
This chapter focuses on non-native varieties of English or foreign-accented English. It examines how characters speaking foreign-accented English are represented in the animated films of the corpus and how their linguistic identity is dealt with in dubbed versions. By examining examples from various films containing foreign-accented English that is used to convey the foreign identity of the speaker, the chapter illustrates that such a linguistic identity is reproduced and often emphasised in dubbed versions. A few instances of reduction and neutralisation of the foreign accent are also discussed and the reasons for resorting to specific strategies are explored.
